Back to school shopping!

Don't you remember as a kid how much you hated back-to-school shopping?! At least I did, it was usually the last thing you did before you actually hit the classroom. A subtle reminder of what was only a few days away.

Labour Day weekend was a long weekend growing up in Ontario, but there were enough reminders that once Tuesday hit, you had those new runners & jeans on & were headed back. Don't get me wrong, I loved the social aspect of school, just not the classes lol. Labour Day was called "The unofficial end to summer", it was also the last few days of the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition).

How long did you spend trying to scuff up your brand new pair of white running shoes you bought for school so they didn't blind everybody when you got back to class?! It used to drive our parents crazy.

The absolute worst part of back-to-school shopping tho, had to be seeing signs in the malls advertising the sales in the first weekend of August. August!! I mean, c'mon, we only get two months off and we still had a full month to go. As a kid you don't realize it's a little thing called marketing. To us, it kept us out of the malls.

There was one good thing about going back tho, it was these pencil crayons. And EVERYTHING about them. I bet you still remember the smell, how delicately you sharpened them, and even the taste as you chewed the end. And why did they always have the goofy names to describe the colour?! Peacock blue, Natural flesh, etc

They were absolutely perfect. I wish kids today could share the same joy.
