Follow your dreams. Even if it’s vicariously through someone else. That’s how the saying goes, right?!
I loved playing hockey, I just never played too high of a level. I played for our High School team, the Aldershot Aces, then beer league for years after that. My son is obsessed with hockey, and just when you think the season of racking up thousands of kilometres is over, oh no, we’ve only just begun.
This past season he played Junior B for the Wetaskiwin Icemen, a town that is a few hundred kms away. Keep in mind most games are in the Edmonton area, and by season’s end, we drove nearly 53,000 kms between August and September. It was awesome and we wouldn’t change a thing.
Starting this weekend, we start travelling to a bunch of Junior A camps so they can have a look at him. Only one of these teams is close. Today we head to Canmore for a showcase, then Prince George BC, and finally Vancouver Island. I’m his driver. His chef, and part-time coach, although he likes my first two roles a lot better than the last one. I’ll let you know how it goes.
