Life in a northern town

mookiew4

To say that hockey is a big part of our life would be a massive understatement. In fact I would go on to say it rules our life.

My son plays Junior in a town just over 2 hours NW of here called Rocky Mountain House. If guys on the team don't live there, a number of them billet so it's not a monstrous drive every ice time. Except for us. If last year is anything like this year we will be buying new cars at the end of the year. Oil changes and snow tires are a must, thankfully I have 4 x 4. Oh, and have you seen the price of gas?! Last year between practices and games we logged just over 52,000 kms of travel in about 6 months. You read that right, 52,000!!!! An average of 4 ice times a week, none of them very close.

This past weekend with a Thursday practice in Rocky, followed by Friday & Saturday games there, we moved up for 4 days, dogs and all. It was.... an adventure.

Dinner in front of the tv in tupperware, outstanding views? All in the name of the kid and the sport he (we) love so much. Usually I have a few beers in the stands and watch, but I've been put to work the last couple months on the pa.

Busy, costly, but fun. One day it will be all over and we won't get times like this. Gotta embrace them while you can.
